Visual taxonomy of dual-use items CALL REFERENCE NO. : IPSC/G08/17 Category : 30. Post-Doc researcher Action : NUVER Application must be delivered before 31 Oct, 2010 - 23:59:59CET   R&D on tools for the visualization and categorisation of dual-use items.   The project will explore the feasibility of establishing a taxonomy for the rapid, visual identification of technical items by non experts. Both the identification of the items and the taxonomy itself will be based on a large collection of photographic, numerical and textual attributes of the items. The taxonomy is meant to be a tool for front line customs officers to visually recognize dual-use items subject to export controls.   Work includes: � establish a suitable collection of photographic material, textual and numerical attributes for selected dual-use items; � design and implement a taxonomy for dual-use items; � develop innovative methods for browsing and searching for items based on the taxonomy; � experimental validation of methodologies, algorithms and tools with users.   The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in information visualization / pattern recognition / image processing and related fields.
